Does anyone know how I can resolve this?

Hi Everyone-

I've Googled this and know there's quite a bit of interest but have yet to find a suitable answer -

Does anyone know of a filter or sequence of steps to make a pre-recorded sound file sound like it was recorded from a phone call using Soundbooth CS4? I have conversation previously recorded that needs to sound like it was a recorded phone call.

Thanks in advance!

Any help is GREATLY appreciated!

Audition CS5.5 is SoundBooth

I believe Adobe has pulled a fast one. Audition CS5.5 is really Soundbooth. The interface of SoundBooth CS4 and CS5 are identicle to Audition CS5.5 For those customers who never used Audition 3.0 would not know the difference. For me its disappointing and is a marketing ploy that Adobe only did away with the name Soundbooth, but it still exists under the name Audition CS5.5. All they did was put some(not all) of Audition's 3.0 features in what is really SoundBooth CS5.5. Don't take my word for it, do the comparison yourself. Compare Soundbooth CS4 and or CS5 to Audition CS5.5, what do you see when you look at the interface?

Getting more from Soundbooth - using VST effects in XP

You can add to Soundbooth's built-in functions through the use of VST effects. These can be downloaded from various sites on the internet into a particular directory within the Soundbooth installation, and then access via Soundbooth's effects rack or effects menu.

Not all available VST effects will work with Soundbooth, however. Some will simply be ignored, others will cause the program to crash. But those described below seem to work well in Soundbooth following a short stereo file test of each on my system, running under Windows XP. They may work under Vista.

Use of VST effects in Soundbooth is not supported by Adobe. This post represents end-user unofficial advice. Check out the correct functioning of the effects listed on your own system using unimportant sound files before using them, at your own risk, on your real work. But if you do encounter a problem with an effect you've installed yourself, simply deleting it from the Soundbooth program directory system should restore the program to normal operation.

Installing VST effects for Soundbooth in Windows XP - it's not hard!

Quit Soundbooth.

Navigate to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Soundbooth CS3\Plug-ins\Common\VSTPlugins\
(but do not rename or delete or otherwise interfere with any files in that folder - Soundbooth needs them to function).

Within that folder, create a new folder which you could name "My Plugins". The name doesn't matter - creating the folder and keeping all downloaded effects inside it is simply a matter of good housekeeping.

When you download an effect you will see a file with a ".dll" extension - like "reverb.dll" for instance. Simply put that file into the "My Plugins" folder you've created.

Sometimes there will be additional files in the download and hopefully a readme file will tell you what to do with them. If in doubt, copy the lot into the "My Plugins" folder.

Run Soundbooth again, open an audio file, and you should be able to see the effect's name in the Effects menu or Effects Rack. When you have loaded the effect in the Soundbooth effects rack, click on "Settings" to display the effect's interface.

Useful freeware/donationware VST effects that should work in Soundbooth

"Inspector" from http://www.rogernicholsdigital.com/inspector.html

"Inspector is a compact, but powerful, analysis tool. From spectral analysis to extensive metering, Inspector gives you a full picture of your audio. Use the spectrum analyzer to get a clear and accurate representation of your mix. The peak and RMS meters, with customizable caution and warning zones, allow you to visualize and quantify the levels of your audio. The balance meter provides a visual indication of the balance relationship between channels."

My rating - handy and easy to use. Just for analysis - it will not change your audio.

"MB Audio Meter"from http://www.funkfish.de/~blankenburg/plugins/audiometer.html

"This tool measures levels and stereo behaviour of incoming audio as well as frequency levels.

It features peak meters for L, R, M and S, a stereoscope, position and correlation meters and an analyser (view L, R, M, S)."

My rating - easy to use but you need to be able to understand the implications of what you see! It is only an analysis display and will not change your audio.

"Sonalksis FreeG Stereo" from http://www.sonalksis.com/index.php?section_id=99

This effect provides "extended control of amplitude, phase and pan (stereo version) in the insert chain as well as fine metering, with user configurable industry standard parameter options".

My rating - good looking, very handy in Soundbooth, and easy to use. Check the effect's documentation for how to display its additional setup parameters.

"Stereo Tools" from http://www.kellyindustries.com/stereo_tools.html

"The Stereo Tools VST Plug-in is a simple to use utility plug-in that allows you to pan or position both the left and right channels independently of one another. It works well for stereo files that you don't want to have to convert to mono or if you want to fix a problem with the stereo file. For instance with the Stereo Tools plug-in you can MUTE one side of the file and then pan or position the other side to the center. You can also use the plug-in to remove the center information (voice remover), as well as sum both the left and right channels together. You can also work with files in the Mid/Side format."

My rating - very handy and simple to use.

RE: Royalty free sounds, and how to strech the sound

Hello Every-one.

This is my first post in soundbooth. I have a 10 second sound clip, and inside premiere pro, I have a 40 minutes video. In order for me to have the clip play all the way until the end, i have to copy and paste. But that will take for ever. How can I stretch the 10 seconds Music clip to a 30 or 40 minutes inside soundbooth.

Also, i have several video's that i would like to upload to Youtube, and I am looking for royalty free clips such as classical or relaxing music clips.

I think soundbooth by default dose include Royalty clips, where can i found those inside soundbooth, and please let me know from which sites I can download royalty clips.

Thank you very much.

Simon.

How to change default file saved in Soundbooth

I know there is an issue with the .wav file in Soundbooth being able to be used in Captivate, and I know I can do a save as and save it to an MP3 file and it will work fine, HOWEVER, I'm doing a LOT of recording to go into Captivate projects and I really dont want to have to do this on ever blasted file.  Is there a way to change the default file type it saves as OR change the .wav file that it saves to be the 16 bit (I think) that works in Captivate. ....HELP (I'd even be happy with how to create a shortcut that would easily do this in one step)

why is it when I import an mp3 that contains file info such as title, artist, etc. then make a volume correction and save it again as mp3 it loses all the file info?  the only thing that remains is the filename.

if anyone knows how I can retain this info it would be really helpful since I want to apply volume correction to over 500 mp3s and would still like to have the meta data for my ipod

How can I remove the vocals from a song recording, leaving just instrumentals?

I have a mp3 recording, a musician singing with guitar playing. I want to remove the singing and keep just the guitar playing.

I intend to insert the guitar music as background to a movie I am making. I am new to Adobe, learning Premier Elements.

Will Soundbooth handle this task? Do you know how to accomplish this? Much obliged for any help.  Rene

What do the units represent in PITCH SHIFT slider?

$

In Soundbooth there is a function that allows the user to slow down or speed up a track without changing to tone.  And in the same dialog there is a function tiytled Pitch Shift with a slider that goes from -36 to (plus) 36.  What do these numbers represent?

I am a trained musician, but the seemingly arbitrary values of "36" makes no sense to me.  Does thiis mean the 12 semitones divided by three?  Are they cents?  I need to adjust a track up about a third of the way of a semi-tone.  If I knew, for example, how much of the "36" reresents a semitone, then I could do away with experimentation and tune the track immediately.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks

Mark

Quick question, I have this music track that is basicaly a repeating beat with guitar riffs that play on top. Is there any way, using Soundbooth, that I can extract the two elements (Beat/Guitar) into seperate tracks so that I could edit them seperatly?

Thanks

John

SB adds silence to beginning of mp3s when saving

$

I'm trying to create loops, and I'll notice SB adds silence at the beginning during "Save Loop As"—there will be an audible hiccup. But it seems to happen with smoothing on and off whenever I save out as a mp3. Some of the files are perfectly loopable when they come in as a wav, so it's infuriating that SB is so keen on meddling.

I can trim the beginning and resave, but I know I shouldn't be resaving an mp3. Anyone else having this problem?

Soundbooth CS4 (v2.0.1) on Windows 7 x64?

$

Hoping to get some feeling of whether it is our environment or a known issue. We have a site license (500 seats) of CS4, and while everything else in the suite works fine, Adobe Soundbooth CS4 is driving us mad. Put simply, I can get it to install on our desktop image (Windows 7 Professional 64-Bit), and it initially tested okay during the build process, but almost ALL of our desktops have been failing - with this application only. Randomly (and for unknown reasons) the software will load and work fine on systems... but most of the time it crashes at the "Loading Windows Media" portion of the start process (only splash screen at this point). See below...

SoundboothCS4b.jpg

Here's today's test process, on my workstation:

NOTE: I decided to test Soundbooth again. It says v2.0.1 on the plash screen, and no updates appear to be available. The Windows system is fully patched, freshly restarted, and has minimal applications running. i decide to run the program ten (10) times and log the results (as this is usually enough to get the error to occur).

  • First three (3) times using the executable directly from the install location ("C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Soundbooth CS4"). This worked a treat.
  • Next two (2) times using the shortcut on the start menu. This worked a treat as well.
  • On the next (third) attempt from the start menu, it froze at "Loading Windows Media". Left it for several minutes, nothing more happened. Clicking the splash screen gives you the "Not Responding" dialog and the option to close the application. At this stage the program was not consuming any CPU time, or disk access, and the "Adobe Soundbooth CS4.exe" process was consuming a fairly regular/static 62,692K of memory. I had to end the process as it had crashed.
  • Subsequent four (4) launches (two from the start menu, and the other two from the executable directly) resulted in the crash. It has not worked since.

I have tied holding down the shift key, manually deleting preferences, changing user accounts/profiles... nothing works. It is completely random as to when this application will work, the rest of the time it crashes at this point. No amount of other programs being open or closed, freshly restarting the computer, or any other process can get the application to launch in a more stable/reliable manner. This is immensely frustrating for our users.

Anyone have any ideas? Anyone else having the issue, or have seen the issue?

Editing Language Course from Vinyls

Hello Everyone:

I have some files from a 60 or 70 year old language course. I am looking for any advice about how to deal with the low quality of the recording. I have equalized the volume, removed much of the noise, but the speaker's voices are still very indistinct. I have run the Voice:Increased Clarity effect, which helped some but it is still not very clear.

I am running Soundbooth CS4 on Mac OS X 10.6.

Thanks in Advance,

Peter

Hi,

Are there any Soundbooth CS5 effects and/or rack presets (either Adobe or third-party) for working with 5.1 audio?  I have effects and presets for both mono and stereo, but none show up for 5.1 files.

Best,

Chris

Recording LP records as source material- Sample Rate

$

Using recorded tracks from LP records to make DVDs, Blu-Ray DVDs or simple CD's. Am not sure what maximum sample rate to use. I understand the end product limits of the various digital media, but LPs are analog. Do I gain any sound quality by recording the original LP at a sample rate higher than 48000/32bit, say 96000 sample rate) and then resampling (downsizing) the audio file if the end product cannot produce the higher sample rate?

No audio playback in Soundbooth

$

Hi, I am having a few troubles with Soundbooth.

The main problem is I can not hear any audio playback. I can visually see the track playing but can not hear the audio. I have tried many different tracks of different formats. They play fine through Windows media player, Premiere Pro Cs3 just not through Soundbooth.

I have checked Audio Hardware and the settings seem fine. i have changed the buffer size but still no luck. The Windows audio hardware shows everything is working fine.

Also I have other problems when I try using autoscore. When I select an autoscore from 'browse scores' it adds it to the file list in Soundbooth but not in the AutoCompose Score window. This means I can not change the start time, duration or any of the other settings.

Would appreciate your suggestions.

Regards, Carl

Hey guys,

hope anyone can help me.

I want to extend the middle part of this song:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6NnUlP2YLBw&feature=relmfu

I've already tried several things but it really sounds bad. Is there a kind of tool that I can use? I just need the song 30 seconds longer. To slow it down was also a trial but it sounds bad as well :-( I want to keep the speed....

Thanks a lot for your support :-)
